BBC Worldwide to Produce Multi-Platform Fantasy Series

11 Oct, 2012 By: Chris Tribbey

BBC Worldwide Productions and Quality Transmedia will co-produce the comic book “Peter Panzerfaust” as an animated motion comic series and eventually as a live-action scripted series, with a purely digital release planned at the outset.

“Panzerfaust” is a contemporary reimagining of “Peter Pan,” with the ongoing comic series seeing Peter as an American freedom fighter in Nazi-occupied Europe. The Lost Boys are a group of orphans Peter teams up with to take on Nazi S.S. Captain Haken (Captain Hook).

“‘Panzerfaust’ was instantly appealing our team with its unique mixture of real historical elements combined with classic Peter Pan mythology,” said Dan Tischler, VP of digital for BBC Worldwide Productions. “This clever take on such an iconic story offers us an opportunity to take a comprehensive cross-platform approach to development, with the motion comic series being the ideal entry point to bring the concept to life.”

Motion comics blend a combination of comic book art, animation and voice narration. This will be the second collaboration between Quality Transmedia’s Jeff Krelitz and BBC Worldwide Productions, which first co-produced “Torchwood: Web of Lies,” a prequel to the British TV series “Torchwood: Miracle Day.”

“When I read the material, I immediately knew the innovative and creative sensibilities of BBC Worldwide Productions would make them the perfect partner for this project,” Krelitz said. “This represents a fresh and smart way to explore the material and I’m looking forward to bringing Peter Panzerfaust to audiences through a variety of mediums.”
