Yahoo Launches New App, Announced Content Line-Up

Yahoo Sept. 9 launched a new app for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, offering channel-based, premium content and a simpler interface.

The Yahoo Screen app channels include Popular, Comedy, Food, Celebrity, Gaming, Sports and more. Yahoo launched Screen in 2011 as an original content hub.

“Watching videos online has become part of people’s daily routines, and comedy has always been a big draw,” said Erin McPherson, Yahoo VP and head of video. “Content of this caliber deserves a great showcase, and Yahoo Screen is just that: a true destination where our users will be able to discover, watch and share not only first-rate comedy, but a wide variety of other engaging video. While this effort is just the beginning of building a world-class, multi-platform video experience for our users, it demonstrates our goal: to marry beautiful products, cutting-edge technology and compelling content to create unique experiences for users.”

As part of the launch, Yahoo announced a new line-up for its comedy channel, featuring eight original Web series, the Saturday Night Live clip archive, and clips from Comedy Central and MTV shows, including “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and “The Colbert Report.” The app features more than 1,000 hours of content.
