Yahoo Gets 'SNL' Archives25 Apr, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey
Yahoo will be the exclusive home to “Saturday Night Live’s” archives, beginning Sept. 1, thanks to a new agreement with NBC Entertainment.
Show clips, musical performances, making-of, behind-the-scenes and dress rehearsal clips from 1975-2013 will be available on Yahoo. Yahoo will also have non-exclusive access to current season episodes and non-exclusive distribution rights for library clips outside of the U.S.
“’Saturday Night Live’ is legendary for launching new talent, providing witty commentary on current events, and delighting fans the world over,” said Yahoo! president and CEO Marissa Mayer. “We are thrilled to give Yahoo! users the most comprehensive collection of ‘SNL’ content available on the Web, and make Yahoo! a home for current season clips, as well as clips from the entire 38-season archive.”
Yahoo! will partner with Broadway Video Entertainment to create a digital hub for the programming and promote it across Yahoo! sites. “SNL” content will be removed from other sites for one year.
“Yahoo! will give ‘Saturday Night Live’ a great opportunity to expand its current digital distribution,” said Broadway Video CEO Jack Sullivan. “This deal will ensure that ‘SNL’ clips from past and future seasons will be even more accessible to fans across all generations.”
