UltraViolet Launching in Germany, France in September

4 Jul, 2013 By: Chris Tribbey

UltraViolet will launch in France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland in September, and will launch in Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and other European territories afterward, a spokeswoman for Digital Entertainment Content Ecosystem (DECE) confirmed.

DECE is the industry consortium behind the buy once, play anywhere cloud-based content system.

“UltraViolet continues to expand globally and is currently available to consumers in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand,” the spokeswoman said. “DECE plans to launch the UltraViolet system — available for companies to begin marketing UltraViolet-enabled content and related services and products — [in those regions in September].”

In an interview with the German daily newspaper Handelsblatt, David Bishop, president of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, said his studio will promote UltraViolet in Germany when the service launches there.
