U.K. Theatrical Chain Launching SVOD Service

23 Aug, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Curzon Cinemas, a chain of movie theaters in the United Kingdom, isn’t waiting for premium VOD. The 10-theater arthouse operation is launching a proprietary video-on-demand streaming service.

Dubbed “Curzon 12,” the service will offer a dozen recent and classic movies curated by the company’s staff. Titles selected will balance movies screening concurrently in theaters and through Curzon Home Cinema.

Movies include François Truffaut’s The 400 Blows, Andrea Arnold’s Fish Tank, Claude Chabrol’s Rien Ne Va Plus and Charlie Chaplin’s Modern Times, among others.

“Members are at the forefront of everything we do at Curzon. Adding ‘Curzon 12’ to our membership offering will allow Curzon members to further indulge their passion for cinema,” CEO Philip Knatchbull said in a statement.
