A larger screen results in watching more video among mobile device users, according to a new study from comScore.

The research firm found that more than 50% of tablet owners use their device to watch video, while for smartphone owners, watching video didn’t even crack the top 10 among uses.

"2013 was a watershed year for mobile, with smartphones surpassing 50% penetration and tablets continuing to gain traction," said Mark Donovan, comScore SVP of mobile. "As consumers incorporate these devices into their daily diet of digital media consumption, marketers and media companies are challenged to confront this emerging multi-platform paradigm. Having a clear view of today’s digital landscape — and particularly the rapidly expanding usage of mobile devices — will be critical to success in the year ahead.”

Smartphones are now owned by 125 million American consumers, with 50 million owning tablets, according to the study. Android and Apple control 90% of the smartphone market, according to the story.
