Starz Gets Wider Streaming Access on DirecTV Now

7 Feb, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Starz Feb. 7 announced its proprietary subscription streaming service and separate Starz Encore video-on-demand service are available on DirecTV Now for $8 a month. The online TV platform will also offer Starz Kids & Family channel.

The services, in addition to eight other Encore channels, are still included in AT&T’s  $70 monthly “Gotta Have It” DirecTV Now channel package.

Starz SVOD service features new and past episodes of Starz Original series, including “Outlander,” “Power” and the premiere of “American Gods,” along with movies, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Inside Out and Avengers: Age of Ultron, among others.

“With the addition of Starz, we’re continuing to broaden the appeal of DirecTV Now,” Dan York, chief content officer for AT&T, said in a statement.

Starz, which was recently acquired by Lionsgate, is targeting broadband-only households with over-the-top video services. At the same time, Starz remains a pay-TV brand featuring 17 channels with 24.5 million domestic subscribers, and the Starz Encore network with 31.5 million subs.

“With today’s launch on DirecTV Now, Starz is continuing to extend the reach of its flagship Starz products in the marketplace,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, COO at Starz. “AT&T is opening up barriers to entry that prevented a wide swath of audience from accessing our groundbreaking slate of originals.”
