Starz App Integrates Music Streaming Service Spotify

29 Nov, 2016 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Seeking to incorporate sound tracks on its original TV series and movies, Starz and music streaming service Spotify Nov. 29 announced plans to launch the first-ever streaming music integration into the $8.99 standalone Starz streaming service app.

Starz app subscribers will have access to songs and soundtracks from TV shows, including “Power” featuring music from Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson; “Outlander” from Emmy-winning composer Bear McCreary (“The Walking Dead,” “Battlestar Galactica”); and movies such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Annie, Disney’s Inside Out and Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, among others.

Spotify Premium users will be able to login and listen to full tracks, while free users can listen to 30-second track previews. All users can save and follow Spotify playlists from within the Starz app. Customized Starz video recommendations will also be provided to Spotify users on the Starz app based on their listening habits.

“Spotify integration will complement and fortify the Starz app’s appeal for distributors and consumers alike,” Starz COO Jeffrey Hirsch said in a statement.

The Starz app also doubles as a TV Everywhere platform for Starz subs from linear pay-TV services.
