Spanish OTT Movie Service Launched

FlixLatino available on DirecTV’s Yaveo ($7.99/month) digital platform

Spanish cinema Feb. 10 found a domestic home in the over-the-top video ecosystem with the launch of FlixLatino.

The service, offered by Somos Next LLC, a Miami, Fla.-based subsidiary of SomosTV LLC., features more than 400 films originally produced in Spanish and theatrically released in their countries of origin, including Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Spain, Chile and Venezuela, among others.

Parent SomosTV markets and distributes pay-TV channels to the domestic Hispanic market.

"It is important for us to create brands that help the audience identify the good quality of our catalog; therefore, FlixLatino will be our spearhead for films targeting these markets,” Luis Villanueva, CEO of Somos Next, said in a statement.

FlixLatino is available on DirecTV’s Yaveo ($7.99/month) digital platform. It also has a YouTube channel, where U.S. consumers can rent (transactional VOD) movies.

Genres include action, romance, drama, comedy, mystery, horror and suspense. Content streams on tablets, cellphones, laptops and other connected devices. Most are available in high-definition.

“We invest significant resources in our selection and acquisition efforts and need a familiar symbol that communicates the value of our product. FlixLatino will enjoy broad marketing support online and in social communities, in order to stimulate consumption and knowledge of our catalog,” Villanueva said.
