In a major move, TV show hitmaker Shonda Rhimes (“Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal,” “How to Get Away with Murder”) is moving her Shondaland production company to Netflix. Joining Rhimes in the multiyear deal is longtime producing partner Betsy Beers. Financial terms were not disclosed.

While “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder” air in the U.S. on ABC — and will continue to — “Murder” streams everywhere else in the world on Netflix, with the other two shows available on SVOD pioneer in many regions as well. Shondaland has been headquartered at ABC Studios.

“Shonda Rhimes is one of the greatest storytellers in the history of television,” Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, said in a statement. “Her work is gripping, inventive, pulse-pounding, heart-stopping, taboo-breaking television at its best. I’ve gotten the chance to know Shonda and she’s a true Netflixer at heart.”

Rhimes said the move to Netflix is based in part on her personal future as a storyteller and for the evolution of her company.

“[Ted] understood what I was looking for — the opportunity to build a vibrant new storytelling home for writers with the unique creative freedom and instantaneous global reach provided by Netflix’s singular sense of innovation. The future of Shondaland at Netflix has limitless possibilities,” she said.

Over the last decade, Shondaland has earned numerous awards including a Golden Globe, the Peabody Award, GLAAD Media Awards, NAACP Image Awards and eight Emmys.
