Screen Media Bows Ad-Supported Streaming Platform for Kids1 Apr, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Screen Media Ventures April 1 launched a kids platform for its Popcornflix ad-supported streaming service.
Dubbed PopcornflixKids, the platform offers hundreds of hours of family and children’s movies and TV programming in a range of genres, including fun for the family, animated, wild kingdom, fairytales, musicals and Español.
PopcornflixKids is available on the Web, Roku and Android — with an iOS option available in the United States later this year.
Kids movies include Jack and the Beanstalk, a live-action thriller starring Colin Ford, Chloë Grace Moretz and Christopher Lloyd. Other family titles include School of Life with Ryan Reynolds, classic cartoon series such as "Popeye," "Superman" and "Betty Boop," as well as “The Big Comfy Couch” and “Popular Mechanics for Kids.”
David Fannon, EVP at Screen Media Ventures, said PopcornflixKids offers an alternative to SVOD services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Instant Video, iTunes and pay-TV, which charge fees.
“It is challenging for parents to find quality family friendly entertainment — especially for free,” Fannon said.
