11 Jun, 2014 By: Chris Tribbey

The classic PBS children’s science series “The Magic School Bus” will be reimagined as a 26-episode series exclusively for Netflix beginning in 2016, Scholastic Media announced.

The CG-animated series “The Magic School Bus 360°” aims to introduce a new generation of kids to science, with a emphasis on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education.

“’The Magic School Bus’ revolutionized kids television through a unique and powerful blend of entertainment and science information,” said Deborah Forte, president of Scholastic Media. “Our new rendition … is a similarly compelling addition to the current landscape of children’s programming and on Netflix is bound to reach more families around the world than ever before who will now be able to watch the show anytime, anywhere they want.”

In August 2013 the first four seasons of the original 1990s series were made available exclusively on Netflix. Ted Sarandos, chief content officer of Netflix, said Scholastic’s programs, including “Clifford The Big Red Dog” and “Goosebumps,” have been major hits for the streaming service.

“We’re thrilled to expand our relationships and to be the first-run home of ‘The Magic School Bus 360°,’ introducing a whole new generation to Ms. Frizzle and her hijinks,” he said.

“The Magic School Bus” lays claim to being the longest-running kids science series of all time, airing for 18 consecutive years.
