Hispanics in the United States are abandoning traditional telephone and Internet services in droves and using mobile data plans to access over-the-top video content on their smartphones, according to a new report.

The study from research firm Centris found that 71% of Hispanics now have a smartphone, compared with 58% of American households, and in the past month, 62% of Hispanic households watched video on their phone, compared with 52% of all American households.

Thirty-three percent of Hispanic households subscribe to Netflix, compared with 25% of all U.S. households, and 61% of Hispanic households have a broadband connection, compared with 70% of all U.S. households.
