21 Apr, 2009 By: Billy Gil

Perhaps YouTube should debut a Canadian channel: New data from comScore’s Video Metrix shows that 21 million Canadians viewed more than 3.1 billion videos online in February.

More than 21 million viewers in Canada (88% of Canadians online) watched an average of 147 videos per viewer in the month, with Google sites (including YouTube) leading the way with a 52% share in videos watched (about 1.63 million). The average Canadian viewer spent 10 hours watching videos in February, up 53% from the average viewing time last year.

“Canada’s high broadband penetration and tech savvy Internet users make it an optimal environment for online video to flourish,” said Bryan Segal, VP of sales for comScore Canada. “The combined forces of reach, high engagement and ‘sight, sound and motion’ make online video a particularly attractive brand-building vehicle for online advertisers.”
