Paramount Bowing Scandinavian SVOD Service

30 Aug, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Viacom International Media Networks is launching a branded Paramount Pictures subscription streaming video service via pay-TV operators in Denmark, Norway and Sweden Oct. 1.

The service will feature more than 800 movies and TV shows, including MTV and Comedy Central, and will be distributed by YouSee in Denmark, Com Hem in Sweden and Get in Norway, in addition to Canal Digital/Telenor.

Movies include Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Rings, Brother Nature, Goat and xXx: Return of Xander Cage.

The studio’s first SVOD service comes as Viacom — under new CEO Bob Bakish — focuses resources on five brands: Nickelodeon (and Nick Jr.), MTV, Comedy Central, BET and Paramount.

“[This is] the first time we’re aggregating first-run movie rights with our TV content under the Paramount brand for SVOD access, available for our pay-TV operators only,” Andrea Sahlgren, SVP and GM for VIMN Nordics, said in a statement. “It’s the perfect complement to our existing linear TV and VOD offerings.”

Scandinavia features SVOD competition from Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and HBO Nordics, among others.
