Original ‘South Park’ Pilot Online14 Aug, 2009 By: John Latchem
SouthParkStudios.com now offers fans a chance to view the original “South Park” pilot episode before it was edited for television. The unaired version of “Cartman Gets an Anal Probe” includes an additional four minutes of footage of the episode, which was hand-animated with construction paper.
The version shown on Comedy Central in 1997 and on DVD includes a truncated version of the story and some visual effects enhancements. The original version will be available for 30 days, starting Aug. 13, at www.southparkstudios.com/episodes/pilot. The episode was previously available only as a DVD exclusive from Best Buy with the purchase of one of the earlier season sets of the show.
The original pilot is not to be confused with the two “South Park” video holiday cards made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone that spurred Comedy Central to order the series.
Fans can also prepare for the Oct. 7 mid-season premiere with commentary from “South Park” producer Eric Stough and South Park Studios creative director Chris Brion. SouthParkStudios.com offers clips from every episode of “South Park,” which is in its 13th season and is the highest-rated show on Comedy Central. The site also has behind-the-scenes information for the first 12 seasons.
