Microsoft Corp. Feb. 5 said 1 million Xbox Live subscribers streamed 1.5 billion minutes of Netflix content since the two companies entered into distribution agreement last November.
Xbox Live subscribers, who are also Netflix members, have access to more than 12,000 movies and TV episodes streamed instantly from the online DVD rental pioneer on Xbox Live platform for no additional fee.
The Xbox Live video marketplace separately offers more than 17,000 streams of standard- and high-definition content. From December to January, Xbox Live video marketplace downloads grew 174% year-over-year.
“As these strong results on Xbox demonstrate, Xbox Live is a terrific way for Netflix members to enjoy watching movies instantly on their TVs,” said Leslie Kilgore, Netflix chief marketing officer, in a statement.
Netflix also streams content to the TV via any of a number of Web-enabled devices, including select LG and Samsung Blu-ray players, TiVo and the Roku set-top box.
