Saying it aims to foster a “freedom and responsibility” culture within its workforce, high-flying Netflix has begun offering employee parents of newborns unlimited maternity and paternity leave in the first year of a child’s life.
Netflix, which disclosed the policy in an Aug. 4 blog post, said the affected employees would receive their normal salaries and benefits during any leave period.
“We want employees to have the flexibility and confidence to balance the needs of their growing families without worrying about work or finances,” Tawni Cranz, chief talent officer, wrote in the post.
The subscription streaming pioneer, which saw its recently split stock reach new highs following the announcement of a Sept. 2 launch in Japan, currently offers unlimited time off to employees during any changes in their lives.
“[We want them to] return to work more focused and dedicated,” Cranz wrote.
Netflix opened Aug. 5 with a market capitalization of more than $51.6 billion.
