Hulu Gets Disney Catalog Movies

27 Dec, 2016 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Hulu Dec. 27 announced its first subscription streaming license agreement with Walt Disney Studios for select catalog movies.

Under the multiyear deal, Hulu, which is co-owned by Disney, secures exclusive streaming rights to titles such as Pocahontas, Mulan, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Hercules, Sister Act and Air Bud. Additional movies include: Tarzan, Lilo & Stitch, The Emperor’s New Groove, The Might Ducks, Gone in 60 Seconds, Pearl Harbor, Step Up, The Princess and the Frog and Muppet Treasure Island, among others.

Netflix has exclusive rights to all new-release movies from Disney, including Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm releases.

Although this is Hulu’s first studio agreement, the SVOD service earlier this year inked a deal with Disney/ABC Television Group for streaming rights to The Disney Channel and more than 20 original Disney Channel movies.

"The Disney brand is synonymous with beloved movies that the whole family can enjoy,” Craig Erwich, head of content at Hulu, said in a statement. “Expanding our offering of top-rated kids and family programming has been a top priority for us, and we know viewers will love watching these films over and over again on our service.”
