Hulu Drops Ad-Supported Plan Price

25% price cut only good for a year

Seeking to capitalize on Netflix’s pending price hike, Hulu has quietly cut the price of its ad-supported plan 25% to $5.99 monthly from $7.99. The introductory price includes a free 30-day trial — and expires after one year.

Netflix and Amazon Prime Video’s lowest-priced plans retail at $7.99 and $8.99, respectively. Hulu’s $12 monthly ad-free service and $40 Hulu TV service are not affected.

Hulu, which is managed by 21st Century Fox and co-owned with Disney, Comcast and Time Warner, has about 15 million subscribers. Last month, the SVOD service partnered with Spotify to offer a $4.99 bundled plan to college students.

The service recently upped its profile with a first-ever best drama series Emmy (by a SVOD service) with “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
