‘Hard Knocks’ streaming on upstart over-the-top video service
With the start of National Football League preseason, HBO Now announced it would stream “Hard Knocks: Training Camp With the Houston Texans,” beginning Aug. 11.
“Hard Knocks” is a reality sports TV series produced by NFL Films and HBO. The five-week show, which showcases the rollercoaster emotions players are subjected to attempting to make the opening day roster, was first broadcast in 2001, and the current 2015 season is the 10th.
The program heretofore was only available with a HBO pay-TV subscription and on TV Everywhere platform HBO Go.
HBO Now launched in April for $14.99 a month with a requisite pay-TV subscription.
Ken Rodgers, supervising producer for NFL Films, alluded to wider availability for “Hard Knocks,” including HBO’s pending subscription streaming service last spring.
"A lot of people ask 'do I have to have HBO to watch ‘Hard Knocks,' and the answer to that question is yes, but there are multiple ways to see the show," Rodgers said May 27. "You can watch on demand at HBO On Demand, or on your mobile device on HBO Go, and for the first time this year you can watch on HBO Now, which is a streaming on demand service that does not require a cable subscription."
