Google TV to Offer Netflix

4 Oct, 2010 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Netflix Oct. 4 confirmed that Google Inc. will include Netflix streaming and Amazon Video On Demand, among other entertainment options, when it bows Google TV on select consumer electronics devices later this month.

Rich Ezekiel, director of partnerships, with Netflix confirmed the much-anticipated deal.

“We’ll continue to work hard to maximize the flexibility for how, where, and when you want to instantly watch TV shows and movies streamed from Netflix,” Ezekiel wrote in a post.

The Internet search behemoth, which last month formally announced Google TV and its inclusion into a Sony Blu-ray Disc player and HDTV, said the open platform service will include myriad apps, in addition to select content from TBS, TNT, CNN, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, NBC Universal, HBO Go, and NBA Game Time.

Google also bowed separate website (www.google.com/tv) and blog (http://googletv.blogspot.com/) related to Google TV.

“One of our goals with Google TV is to finally open up the living room and enable new innovation from content creators, programmers, developers and advertisers,” Ambarish Kenghe, developer product manager, Google TV, said in a post. “Devices powered by Google TV will launch this month.”

Indeed, as previous reported, Sony will bow an HDTV and Blu-ray Disc player with the Google TV platform included. Also, Logitech is developing a remote for Google TV.
