FlixFling to Bow Wireless Movie Streaming Platform for the TV

21 Mar, 2012 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Movie streaming platform FlixFling.com March 20 said it is partnering with Orb Networks to launch a subscription video-on-demand service for set-top boxes.

Set to bow in April as FlixFling TV, the platform enables subscribers to stream FlixFling movies directly to any television. Subscribers will receive both a membership to FlixFling and the Orb TV wireless streaming media player for one monthly fee. Subs previously had to view content on a PC or laptop.

Philadelphia-based FlixFling has about 8,000 indie and studio movies, including recent additions from Well Go USA: 1911 (starring Jackie Chan), War of the Arrows and Yakouza Weapon, among others.

FlixFling TV will utilize mobile applications for iOS and Android and Orb’s AllPlay for mobile devices  — an open, cross platform API that enables wireless media streaming — to bring FlixFling’s online service to any screen, using an iOS or Android-enabled smartphone or tablet as a remote.

Oakland, Calif.-based Orb develops hardware and software, smartphone applications and web application services.

“FlixFling TV will bring streaming movies to a wider range of consumers,” FlixFling CEO Thomas Ashley said in a statement.
