FilmBox Live Joins Amazon Streaming Partners Program

9 Sep, 2016 By: Erik Gruenwedel

SPI International, distributor of arthouse theatrical films and television programming in the international market, Sept. 9 announced that its standalone subscription streaming service, FilmBox Live, has joined Amazon’s Streaming Partners Program.

FilmBox offers movies, documentaries and short films licensed from film festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Venice, Locarno, Hong Kong, Tokyo and SXSW, among others.

Access to the $4.99 monthly service via Amazon includes a free seven-day trial. The FilmBox Live app is also available via Google Play and Apple App Store.

"We are excited to launch the Filmbox Live service as an Amazon Prime add-on subscription and we intend to grow our audience by making sure our service is accessible to new subscribers," Loni Farhi, president of SPI International, said in a statement. “SPI is planning to add more thematic videos to the on-demand catalog, including documentaries, fight videos and adventure sports content as well as fashion programming.”

Since launching last winter, Amazon’s Streaming Partners Program has more than 25 third-party SVOD services, including Starz, Showtime, Lifetime Movie Club, Dove Channel, Shudder, Acorn TV, Tribeca Shortlist, FlixFling and Urban Movie Channel.

In exchange for access to millions of Prime members, Amazon — for a fee — handles the SVOD services’ backend billing and related Web services.
