Owners of Sharp Corp.’s Aquos LE820 HDTVs will be able to enjoy high-definition videos in the DivX format, thanks to a partnership announced April 5.
DivX’s 1080p videos will be viewable on Sharp’s HDTVs via USB. An 8GB USB drive will fit two DivX films, the company said.
“Sharp is highly regarded for providing innovative and stylish TVs,” said DivX CEO Kevin Hell. “We are excited to grow our relationship with them and take consumers’ viewing experiences to a whole new level. As a key feature in Sharp’s new line of LED LCD TVs, DivX technology offers consumers an easy way to play their high-definition DivX videos from a USB thumb drive.”
The LE820 series is currently available in Europe. Sharp has not announced when the TVs will be available in North America.
