3 Apr, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Cinedigm is making its standalone over-the-top video services available for the first time on Google Chromecast, Android TV and Amazon Fire TV. The move — starting April 21 — could increase visibility to Dove Channel, CONtv, Docurama and The WHAM Network by 60 million new consumers, according to the Los Angeles-based home entertainment distributor.

Access on Amazon Fire TV and Android TV is scheduled for June and July, respectively.

“Given the success of our networks … to date, it is our number one priority to extend the reach of Dove, CONtv, Docurama and Wham,” Erick Opeka, EVP of digital networks, said in a statement. “Adding these platforms expands our reach to over 90% of the connected device market, and gives our existing user base expanded choices to enjoy their content where, when and how they want.”

Indeed, citing research firm eMarketer, Cinedigm said Chromecast is the most popular OTT device in the United States, with more than 30 million users, and Amazon’s Fire TV is the fastest-growing connected device platform. Additionally, Google’s Android TV platform is has exceeded 50% market share of new Smart TV shipments, according to IHS Markit.

Cinedigm’s subscription streaming video services are currently available via Roku media players and TVs, Android, Apple iOS and tvOS, and on the Web. The channels are also available to Amazon Prime members as part of Amazon’s Streaming Partners Program.

The services’ connected-TV footprint includes Sharp, Sony, Phillips, RCA, Hisense and TCL, among others.

“This expansion follows the tremendous progress we have seen in our OTT channels over the last few months, including rollout on Apple TV, our upgraded interface and our newest channel [WHAM Network] focused on gaming and e-sports,” Opeka said.
