Subscription streaming service offering family-friendly, faith-based and kids programming

As expected, Cinedigm Entertainment Group Sept. 15 formally launched The Dove Channel, a $4.99 monthly subscription streaming service offering family friendly, faith-based and kids programming.

The channel is a partnership between independent video distributor Cinedigm and The Dove Foundation — the latter a longtime advocate for movies and TV shows — notably on disc — from the entertainment industry that are appropriate for family viewing.

Indeed, The Dove Foundation claims that its endorsed movies are three-times more profitable to content holders than non-endorsed films. The Dove rating system ranks programs in six criteria, including sexuality, language, violence, drug and alcohol use, nudity and other.

“For a long time we’ve known the missing link in online family entertainment has been the [content] safety issue,” Dick Rolfe, co-founder and CEO of the foundation, said in a statement.

The Dove Channel brings that mandate to the over-the-top video marketplace featuring more than 900 hours of new and original content across comedy, sci-fi, drama, mystery and action, in addition to musicals, documentary, foreign films, biblical stories and health/wellness specials. Catalog TV fare includes “Highway To Heaven,” “Swiss Family Robinson,” “The Adventures of Black Beauty” and “Where the Red Fern Grows.”

Exclusive programming includes the first season of “Austentatious,” a modern take on the works of Jane Austen, featuring themes of family, friendship, love and career over 10 episodes. Kids content includes episodes of “VeggieTales” and “The Velveteen Rabbit.”

“Dove Channel is the new jewel in the crown of Cinedigm’s prestige digital subscription services,” Bill Sondheim, president of Cinedigm Entertainment Group, said in a statement. “Families are more concerned than ever about quality control in their entertainment choices, and our extensive programming and Dove’s rigorous ratings system combine to deliver our promise that Dove Channel will always be the safest place for families to be in the online space.”

Cinedigm’s first OTT channel, Docurama, launched in May 2014 and CONtv, a comic book convention themed channel in partnership with Wizard World, bowed in March.
