Amazon Streaming 'The Daily Show' via Alexa in the U.K.

20 Jul, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Amazon has begun streaming a spin-off of Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show With Trevor Noah” in the United Kingdom via Alexa — the personal assistant embedded within the Echo smart speaker.

Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) is licensing “The Daily Show” via Alexa’s “flash briefing” showcasing snippets from the talk show. U.K. users will be able to ask Alexa about guests appearing on program, which has aired in the U.K. since 2013.

Internal software enables to ask a series of requests to Alexa-powered devices such as Amazon Echo and Echo Dot home assistants. Users in the U.K. can get news updates from a range of outlets, including BBC News, Sky News and The Guardian.

“We’re consistently exploring new ways to engage and entertain our audiences and, following a successful roll-out in the U.S., we’re excited to be working with Amazon’s innovative voice service in the U.K.,” Tom Frazer, VP of strategy and digital for VIMN U.K., said in a statement.
