Amazon Prime Video Inks Foreign Rights to AMC Studios TV Shows

20 Nov, 2017 By: Erik Gruenwedel

Amazon Prime Video is available globally. So the standalone SVOD service secured foreign rights to original series from AMC Studios — the proprietary production unit of AMC Networks.

AMC Studios’ first episodic series in the pact, “The Terror,” is produced by Ridley Scott and will available on Prime Video in 2018 in 28 markets, including Germany, Japan, Australia, Italy and India.

“This is another step in our efforts to extend the selection of premium TV shows available to Prime Video members worldwide,” Brad Beale, VP of worldwide television acquisition, said in a statement.

AMC Studios previously announced an original content co-production deal with pay-TV distributor Charter Spectrum.

“This agreement underscores the high global demand for AMC’s must-have content and franchises and enables us to bring our popular shows to a wide global audience,” said Rick Olshansky, president of business operations at AMC Studios.

For Prime Video, the AMC Studios agreement follows a deal with Sony Pictures Television for thriller “Absentia,” starring and produced by Stana Katic (“Castle”).

In September, Amazon Studios signed Justin Doble, writer and producer of Netflix’s hit series “Stranger Things.”
