Amazon Prime Instant Video Available on Android Devices9 Sep, 2014 By: Erik Gruenwedel
Until now, SVOD service was only offered on iOS portable devices
Amazon Sept. 9 announced that for the first time Android users have access to Amazon Prime Instant Video movies and TV shows. Until now, Prime Instant Video was only available on the Apple iOS operating system for portable devices.
Technically, the Android app isn’t for streaming movies and TV shows, it’s actually designed for simplified e-commerce featuring “1-click” ordering and price comparisons of products on Amazon.
Streaming videos requires downloading a second app, the Prime Instant Video player, which allows the user to both stream and purchase digital videos. For your troubles Amazon is including 5GB of free photo back-up in Amazon Cloud Drive.
Once accomplished, Prime members using Android have access to thousands of movies and TV shows, including HBO shows such as “The Sopranos,” “True Blood,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “Six Feet Under” and “The Wire,” and Amazon Original series such as “Alpha House,” “Tumble Leaf,” “Creative Galaxy” and “Annedroids.”
“We are always innovating on behalf of our customers and we look forward to receiving their feedback on this enhanced shopping experience,” Paul Cousineau, director of mobile shopping at Amazon, said in a statement.
