Amazon Prime Gets New 'Walking Dead' Companion Series

20 Aug, 2015 By: Erik Gruenwedel

In a major move, Amazon has secured exclusive streaming rights in Germany and Austria to “Fear the Walking Dead,” the new companion series to cult hit “The Walking Dead,” which debuts Aug. 23 in the United States on AMC Networks.

The new series, which offers a microcosmic view of a post-apocalyptic world inhabited by zombies, stars Kim Dickens (Gone Girl) and New Zealand’s Cliff Curtis (“Gang Related”), among others.

Amazon will also stream the new series in the United Kingdom following its fall premiere there on AMC. As part of the deal, Amazon gets streaming access to the first four seasons of “The Walking Dead.” Season six of the original series debuts Oct. 11 on AMC.

“‘Fear The Walking Dead’ is one of the most-anticipated shows in the world and companion to one of the most successful scripted dramas in the history of television,” Jason Ropell, head of international content for Amazon Video, said in a statement. “We recently announced that we’re bringing Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May (formerly with ‘Top Gear’) back together to create a hugely anticipated new motoring show exclusively for Prime members, and now we’re excited to add ‘Fear The Walking Dead.’ Our goal is to add shows that Prime members love — we can’t think of two sets of shows with bigger or more passionate fan bases.”
