This enduring kid-friendly sci-fi action franchise, a cheesy mix of Japanese footage and shorelines involving heroic American teens, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in style. This is actually two separate boxed sets sold together via the Time Life website.
The first box is dubbed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Complete Series, containing three seasons in a 19-DVD set (including two exclusive bonus discs) at $199.99. This set is widely available at retail.
The second box, which has yet to see a wide release, contains seasons four through seven — “Zeo,” “Turbo,” “Power Rangers in Space” and “Lost Galaxy” — and another bonus disc.
Each set includes a booklet with an episode guide and character bios.
The packaging consists of slip cases for individual season (or half-season) releases; so far, only the two volumes of season one have made it to retail on their own. Season 2 Vol. 1 is due Feb. 26.
Exclusives: The “Mighty Morphin” bonus discs include retrospective featurettes with the cast and crew, fan reflections and more. The second set’s disc includes a lost episode, a visit to a Power Rangers convention, a stunt featurette, a profile of characters Bulk and Skull and more. Plus, Time Life also offers a Red Ranger action figure with its sets.
