Is 'Deadgirl,' about teenagers who use a chained-up zombie as their sex slave, a frat boy fantasy or arthouse provocation? I could see the argument being made for the former, but I feel it is the latter. (Street Date 9/15/09)

This is comedy for the Comic-Con crowd, loaded with pop-culture jokes that emphasize sci-fi, fantasy, comic books and video games. It’s as if the Trio from the sixth season of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” and Lt. Cmdr. Data from “Star Trek” were transplanted into a Kevin Smith movie. Those who understood that sentence will love “The Big Bang Theory.” But there’s plenty for everyone else to enjoy, too. (Street Date 9/15/09)

'Wolverine' manages to deliver a competent, by-the-numbers action-adventure piece. Fortunately, Hugh Jackman has so made the role of Wolverine his own that he ably carries the film. (Street Date 9/15/09)

'Big Pun: The Legacy' gives tribute to hip-hop artist Christopher Rios, known to most as Big Punisher. The documentary shows Pun not only as an artist but also as a family man, as told through interviews with many who knew him best. (Street Date 9/15/09)

Those who saw the first 'Crank' will remember it as a wild ride that threw video-game-style action at the screen with little regard for logic or decency. 'Crank 2: High Voltage' is more of the same. For those who don’t mind violence, sex and huge lapses in logic, that means it’s also a lot of fun. (Street Date 9/8/09)
