Trans World Entertainment Posts 10% Holiday Sales Decline

In a challenging market, flat same-store sales represent a win for the home entertainment retailer

In a home entertainment market going digital, retailer Trans World Entertainment Jan. 8 announced that total sales for the nine-week winter holiday retail period (through Jan. 3) declined 9.6% to $104 million from $115 million for the same period a year ago. Same store sales dipped 1%.

Trans World, which operates the f.y.e. (For Your Entertainment) and Second Spin used-packaged-media chains, attributed the decline in part on an average of 9% fewer stores in operation compared with last year.

Trans World’s largest product category is movies and TV shows on DVD and Blu-ray Disc.
