Starbucks Offering ‘Pick of the Week’ TV Episodes

Starbucks quietly has begun offering episodic TV programming (along with indie music mainstay) as part of its in-store “Pick of the Week” promotion.

The coffee retailer recently offered free episodes from The Travel Channel’s “Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations.” The program can be accessed on a Mac, PC, iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch through iTunes when accessing a download code (X3PMKMPNWT44).

Starbucks launched the “Pick of the Week” program with iTunes in April 2008 as a way to add customer value, in addition to helping customers discover and acquire new music as part of their daily coffee routine.

Each Tuesday a limited supply of new “Pick” cards are distributed to participating Starbucks company-operated and select licensed stores in the United States and Canada that are redeemable on the iTunes. The offerings of app's and TV shows is a recent development that Starbucks and iTunes have been offering them in select markets since late 2011.

“Starbucks announced it is expanding the program beyond a complimentary song or music video, to feature free apps, extended samples of [e-books] and TV shows — all hand-picked by Starbucks and iTunes,” a Starbuck spokesperson said in an email. “This program has been enormously popular with customers.”
