GameStop, the nation’s largest video game retail chain, has reportedly acquired the leases of more than 160 Radio Shack stores following the consumer electronics chain’s recent bankruptcy filing.
GameStop will use most of the locations to up its Spring Mobile in-store profile featuring AT&T devices and service, according to The Wall Street Journal.
About 11 of the Radio Shack store fronts will convert to GameStop locations. The Grapevine, Texas-based video game chain paid $2.4 million for the lease options — bringing its store base past 9,000 locations.
Radio Shack hopes to retain operations of about 50% of its 4,000 stores when emerging from Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
