Aussie CE Retailer Bows UltraViolet Functionality

28 Aug, 2013 By: Erik Gruenwedel

JB Hi Fi, which claims to be the largest retailer of packaged media in Australia and New Zealand, is now offering UltraViolet digital rights locker functionality with select discs and online purchases.

JB Hi Fi said it is working with CSG Systems International to implement an online storefront capable of offering UV titles. The platform is slated to be completed by October.

Consumers who purchase UV titles will be able to access streams from the cloud after registering the movies. Content will be accessible via compatible PCs, Macs, Android, iPhone and iPad, after downloading the JB Hi-Fi Video Now app.

“JB Hi-Fi wanted to be first to market with UltraViolet to sustain our brand leadership,” George Papadopoulos, technology director for JB Hi-Fi, said in a statement. “We chose CSG because [it] was the only company that could meet our aggressive UV launch schedule and deliver the kind of world-class content experience we wanted for our customers.”
