'Rango' Repeats Atop Charts27 Jul, 2011 By: John Latchem
Paramount Home Entertainment’s Rango topped the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart the week ended July 24, its second consecutive week on top. In its first full week on shelves, (having debuted on Friday, July 15), Rango also topped Home Media Magazine’s rental chart for the week, moving up from No. 2 the previous week.
The highest-ranking new release was 20th Century Fox’s Limitless, which sold 66% as many copies as Rango. The previous week’s No. 2 title, Lionsgate’s The Lincoln Lawyer, slipped to No. 3, while Warner’s strong holdover Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 1 held its ground at No. 4.
The top four titles were also the top four, in the same order, on VideoScan’s dedicated Blu-ray Disc sales chart.
The only other newcomers landing in the First Alert top 20 were Fox’s Take Me Home Tonight, at No. 8 on the overall chart and No. 5 on the Blu-ray chart, and Warner’s recap of the 2011 NHL Stanley Cup championship, which debuted at No. 17 on First Alert.
The rental chart was shaken up a bit by several titles coming off their 28-day holdbacks from kiosks and Netflix. Warner’s Unknown moved up to No. 3, Universal’s The Adjustment Bureau jumped up to No. 4, Universal’s The Eagle moved to No. 8, Fox’s Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules pushed to No. 10 and Fox’s Cedar Rapids jumped up to No. 14.
