Projections: 'Transformers' Ready to Roll

6 Oct, 2014 By: John Latchem

Paramount's Transformers: Age of Extinction is set to easily top the home video charts the week ending Oct. 6. The Michael Bay-directed sci-fi actioner, the fourth film based on the popular toy franchise, grossed $245.4 million at U.S. theaters and more than a billion dollars worldwide, and arrives at retail amid a ubiquitous promotional campaign that positioned it as the only major new release for the week.

The arrival of Age of Extinction will push the previous week's top seller, Neighbors, down a notch.

The only other notable new release on the theatrical-to-disc side of things is Universal's Chef, a box office sleeper at $31.4 million, which could debut in a top 10 spot.

The rental chart will also be dominated by Age of Extinction, since Paramount doesn't delay its new releases to Redbox. Chef is from a studio that delays new releases 28 days, so Warner's Blended will likely slip down a notch to No. 2.
