Projections: 'Spider-Man' Takes on 'Walking Dead'

1 Sep, 2014 By: John Latchem

Sony Pictures' The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is in position to hold onto the top spot on the home video charts for a the week ending Aug. 31, if it can hold off a slate of new releases led by Anchor Bay's The Walking Dead: Season Four.

The biggest advantage for ASM2 is that, as a TV show, "Walking Dead" carries a higher price point, which could limit its potential unit sales total.

Warner's Blended was the biggest theatrical coming to disc in the week, but its modest $46.3 million domestic theatrical gross means it probably won't have much home video appeal beyond Adam Sandler fans.

ASM2 should easily top the rental chart for a second consecutive week, with Fox's The Other Woman coming off its 28-day Redbox holdback to move into a top spot.
