Projections: 'Sniper' Aligned for Second Week Atop Disc Sales1 Jun, 2015 By: John Latchem
A weak slate of new releases May 26 is likely to pave the way for Warner's American Sniper to repeat atop the home video sales charts the weak ending May 31.
The top title among the new batch is Universal's Seventh Son, a fantasy adventure film that bombed at the box office. Other new releases were essentially direct-to-video releases, aside from a handful of TV titles making their way to disc, led by Lionsgate's Sons of Liberty miniseries.
Seventh Son is considered disposable enough that Universal isn't bothering to hold it back the usual 28 days from Redbox, which means it's likely to debut near the top of the rental charts. Fox's Taken 3 is poised to remain the top rental, followed by Universal's The Boy Next Door, which just came off its 28-day holdback.
