Projections: 'Sicario,' 'Visit' Vying for Top New Release11 Jan, 2016 By: John Latchem
Lionsgate's Sicario and Universal's The Visit are among the new releases seeking the top spot the week ending Jan. 10.
The Visit, a relatively well-received return to horror from M. Night Shyamalan, earned $65.2 million at U.S. theaters.
The crime drama Sicario earned $49.6 million at U.S. theaters but has received more publicity, and also scored as the top rental for the week.
Strong holdovers such as Sony Pictures' War Room and Universal's Minions should also perform well.
On the rental chart, Minions is coming off its 28-day holdback at Redbox and should move into the No. 2 spot. Sony Pictures' The Perfect Guy should also finally show up on the charts after a first-week absence at Redbox.
