Projections: 'Rio 2' Ready to Fly Onto Sales Charts21 Jul, 2014 By: John Latchem
Fox's Rio 2 is poised to shake up the sales charts the week ending July 20 after a slow several weeks for new releases. The animated film earned $129.9 million during its theatrical run and comes to retail supported by a variety of retail promotions.
The arrival of Rio 2 will likely bump The Lego Movie down to the No. 2 spot.
On the rental chart, The Lego Movie is coming off its 28-day holdback at Redbox, so it should move to the top of the rental chart. It's main barrier in that regard will be how much rental interest there is in the title since animated family films are usually stronger as sellers as opposed to rentals.
