Projections: 'Potter' Set to Repeat as No. 1

21 Nov, 2011 By: John Latchem

With studios keeping any real new competition off the shelves in the wake of the disc debut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows — Part 2, the year’s top film should again find itself topping the sales charts. The biggest new release, Larry Crowne, grossed $35.6 million in U.S. theaters, less than 10% of the take of the “Potter” finale.

Other holdover titles also should perform well, such as Disney’s Cars 2 and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, which gets a boost from a DVD-only release. The Redbox debut of Pirates should push it to the top rental spot.
