Projections: 'Penguins' Seeking the Promised Land

23 Mar, 2015 By: John Latchem

A slew of high-profile new releases should make a splash on the home video charts the week ending March 22.

The likely top disc seller is DreamWorks Animation's Penguins of Madagascar movie, distributed by Fox, which has saturated retail outlets with multiple DVD and Blu-ray configurations following an $83.1 million run at the domestic box office.

Other strong contenders for a high spot include Fox's Exodus: Gods and Kings, director Ridley Scott's re-interpretation of the Biblical story of Moses. The subject matter and large-scale production values should attract faith-based viewers, purveyors of big-budget entertainment and fans of Scott's work, although the film earned only $65 million in U.S. theaters.

Another potential top seller is Sony Pictures' Annie remake, which earned $85.9 million in U.S. theaters.

Annie has also tracked highest among the new releases on the rental chart, since the Fox titles are delayed 28 days at Redbox. But the top overall rental could be Universal's Dumb and Dumber To, which is coming off its 28-day Redbox holdback.
