Projections: 'Paranormal Activity' Enters the Fray

4 Jan, 2010 By: Kelly Burner

Four new theatrical titles debuted on disc Dec. 29. At the top of the lineup was the surprise horror phenomenon Paranormal Activity from Paramount, which earned $107.8 million in domestic theaters. Following in a distant second was Universal’s animated sci-fi actioner 9 ($31.7 million) from director Tim Burton. Also released Dec. 29 was the horror-comedy Jennifer’s Body ($16.2 million) from Fox and Universal’s thriller A Perfect Getaway ($15.5 million) starring Milla Jovovich.

Paranormal Activity may pack a big box office take, but this does not necessarily mean that it will be able to snag the top spot on the sales charts. With The Hangover holding strong at first place from the previous week, Paranormal Activity likely will top out at No. 2. Still, there is a chance Paranormal Activity will be the top Blu-ray seller for the week ending Jan. 3, 2010.

Lastly, watch out for volume 1 of "Glee" from Fox, which will likely debut among the top five sellers for the week.
