Projections: No Stopping 'Star Wars' on Disc

11 Apr, 2016 By: John Latchem

Disney's home video release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens should have no trouble debuting at No. 1 on the home video charts by a wide margin.

The seventh installment of the "Star Wars" saga is coming off several box office records, having taken over the top spot on the all-time domestic box office list with more than $935 million.

The other studios steered clear of any major new releases to compete with it on home video the week ending April 10, so the titles to rounding out the top five should be the top sellers from previous weeks, such as Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 2 and Anchor Bay's The Hateful Eight.

The trend also seems to be true on the rental chart, with Force Awakens supplanting previous top rentals such as Paramount's Daddy's Home and Warner's Creed.
