Projections: More ‘Madea’ Means More $$$

5 Sep, 2011 By: John Latchem

Tyler Perry movies always seem to perform well on their home video debuts, and his latest, Madea’s Big Happy Family, shouldn’t be any different. The film grossed $53 million at U.S. theaters and hits disc without much in the way of major new competition.

Given such conditions, a movie such as Disney’s Prom also would look to benefit with a high chart debut, but many retailers didn’t give it prominent shelf placement, which could drop it a few slots.

Fox’s animated hit Rio just came off its kiosk embargo, so it should rise to No. 1 on the rental chart.
