Projections: More Good Timing for 'Jurassic World,' 'Inside Out'7 Dec, 2015 By: John Latchem
A lack of strong new releases surrounding the Black Friday holiday should leave several strong holdovers on top of the disc sales charts the week ending Dec. 7.
The top contenders in this scenario would be the two top-grossing films of the year at the domestic box office: Universal's Jurassic World in its seventh week, the top film coming out of Black Friday, and Disney's Inside Out in its fifth week.
The biggest new release is disc debut of TV show "Fear the Walking Dead," from Anchor Bay. The show is a spinoff of the mega-popular "Walking Dead" franchise, which should give it a huge boost in what should be an otherwise unremarkable week.
On the rental chart, more titles that should be subject to 28-day embargoes are hitting Redbox kiosks in an accelerated time frame. Warner's The Man From U.N.C.L.E. should take the top spot after arriving at Redbox after just 14 days, half the time of the typical Warner holdback. Universal's Self/less hit rental a week earlier than the typical holdback period.
