Projections: 'Mockingjay' Takes on 'Museum'

16 Mar, 2015 By: John Latchem

Lionsgate's The Hunger Games: Mockingjay — Part 1 is in a good position to maintain the top spot on the sales chart the week ending March 15 if it can hold off newcomer Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, from Fox.

Both films are the third installment in their franchise, though Mockingjay has the edge at the box office, $337.1 million to $112.7 million. Museum has the advantage of being the new release, though not by much. Mockingjay's Friday release date was enough to score a huge first-week tally, while leaving enough potential buyers to pick it up in its first full week of release.

Mockingjay is also likely to keep the top spot on the rental chart, since Museum will be delayed at Redbox for 28 days. Universal's Nightcrawler is coming off its 28-day delay and should move into one of the top rental chart positions.
